About Me

Hello! My name is Alex, and I’m so happy to share more about who I am.

As a US Coast Guard spouse and mother of a preschooler, I began freelancing to fit my hectic and unpredictable schedule. When I was looking for a career, I looked back at all my previous jobs—coaching, case management, social work, mentoring, and teaching. They didn’t seem to lead up to a career I could easily take with me whenever and wherever we get relocated. But, I noticed all of them required high levels of detail, accuracy, and communication.

My Ravenclaw tendencies were showing, to say the least.

When I took a good look at my hobbies—reading, storytelling, and adventure seeking—I wondered how I could combine those with my work experience to find the perfect job. Freelance proofreading and editing was the solution. By doing this, I get to indulge in my passions through reading amazing stories while also being able to fulfill my need for intricate and challenging work.

Beta reading came about more as happenstance, an author friend of mine requested my help, and I fell in love with it again. I had beta read for fan-fiction forums for years growing up. To be able to do it professionally is a dream come true.

When I’m not working, I’m spending time with my family since we are currently stationed on Oahu, Hawaii. We love to explore this paradise by hiking, camping, swimming, and even by practicing acroyoga together.

This work was something I never knew I was missing in my life. Being able to help writers achieve their dream is the best part about my job.  I can now say that my life has become something twelve-year-old Alex would love.

And how much better can life get than that?

I graduated from the University of Arkansas in 2011, with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and a minor in Spanish.

I completed Proofread Anywhere's course, General Proofreading: Theory and Practice in September 2018.

I received my Poynter ACES Certificate in Editing in February 2019.

I am a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association and ACES (The American Copyediting Society) and have taken nearly a dozen training courses through these wonderful organizations

I am also an avid reader of genre fiction averaging nearly 60 books per year for the last five years. Check out what I've read this year on my Goodreads page.

Let's get started!

This is a bittersweet announcement: Due to our growing family and an impending cross-country move in the next year, I am temporarily suspending my business until we have settled. Being your editor and beta reader the last two and a half years has been the most fulfilling job I’ve ever had. I look forward to returning as soon as I can. In the meantime, keep dreaming and keep writing. — Alex, February 2021
